Reduce photo file size

Enter a target in KB to reduce photo file size for free, without sending your photos to a server.

Use target size mode when an attachment has a file size limit. These starting settings select JPG and 200 KB. Change the number to match the actual requirements of the service where you will use the file.

The tool searches quality up to 7 times per size. If that does not reach the target, it multiplies each dimension by 0.85 and tries again, with up to 6 additional reductions. If the target is still missed, it shows the smallest result and a warning.

Check the original and result file sizes, reduction percentage, and pixel dimensions. Use the comparison slider to inspect the photo, then download individual files or collect multiple results in a ZIP.

How to use

  1. Select photos or drag them into the tool.
  2. Choose target size mode, enter the required KB, and select an output format.

Tip

200 KB is a starting value. Check the destination’s actual file size and pixel requirements. Target size mode may also reduce pixel dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Will the result always be below the target?

No. If the search and resizing attempts do not reach the target, the tool shows the smallest result with an over-target notice.

Can I apply the same limit to several photos?

You can apply shared settings to up to 50 images. Check the size and status of each result in the list.

How is KB calculated?

This tool uses 1024 bytes per KB. Check whether your destination uses a different calculation or has additional requirements.

Are iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos supported?

Yes. The first image in a HEIC/HEIF file is decoded in your browser. Keep original format saves it as JPG. If decoding fails, convert the photo to JPG and try again.
