Convert PNG to JPG

Re-encode PNG as a real JPG file and choose a background color for transparent areas.

If your destination requires JPG, select a PNG file and choose JPG output. This changes the encoded image format rather than just renaming the extension. Processing takes place inside your browser.

JPG cannot store transparency. When converting a transparent PNG, choose a background color; the default is white. Inspect the formerly transparent areas and their edges in the result.

These starting settings use JPG and high quality mode. You can instead enter a target in KB or set quality manually. The contents of a photo or graphic affect compression, so converting to JPG does not always make a smaller file.

How to use

  1. Select a PNG file.
  2. Check JPG output and the background color, then choose a processing mode.
  3. Inspect the background and file size, then download the .jpg file.

Tip

Choose PNG or WebP instead of JPG if you need a transparent background. Keep the original PNG so you can try other settings later.

Frequently asked questions

Does this only rename the file to .jpg?

No. A JPEG encoder creates a new image, and the downloaded file is actually in JPEG format.

What happens to transparent areas?

They are filled with your selected background color. The default is white, and you can change it in the color input.

Will it always be smaller than PNG?

No. The result depends on image content, dimensions, and quality settings. Compare the output size.

Are iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos supported?

Yes. The first image in a HEIC/HEIF file is decoded in your browser. Keep original format saves it as JPG. If decoding fails, convert the photo to JPG and try again.
