Convert JPG to WebP

Re-encode JPG photos as WebP and compare quality and file size.

Select a JPG photo and convert it when your task calls for a WebP file. This page starts with WebP and high quality mode. The result card shows the actual output format and file size.

High quality mode searches for an SSIM of at least 0.985. Re-encoding can change pixels, so inspect details with the comparison slider. A smaller file is not guaranteed.

Use target size mode for a particular limit or custom mode to choose quality yourself. Check that your destination accepts WebP before using the downloaded file.

How to use

  1. Select a JPG photo.
  2. Choose WebP output and check the processing mode.
  3. Compare the image and file size, then download the .webp file.

Tip

Converting JPG to WebP does not restore detail that has already been lost. Choose JPG if your destination only accepts that format.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload WebP everywhere?

Check the supported formats of the service where you will use it. This app does not check another service’s upload rules.

Does conversion improve image quality?

It does not restore details missing from the source. High quality mode also does not guarantee identical pixels.

How does this differ from automatic format?

Selecting WebP explicitly encodes as WebP. Automatic compares JPG and WebP without transparency, or PNG and WebP with transparency.

Are iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos supported?

Yes. The first image in a HEIC/HEIF file is decoded in your browser. Keep original format saves it as JPG. If decoding fails, convert the photo to JPG and try again.
