Compress PNG

Optimize PNG files losslessly and check results that preserve transparency.

Use PNG compression when you need to retain the PNG format or a transparent background. The starting button selects PNG and high quality mode. For PNG input, the tool first tries lossless optimization with OxiPNG.

PNG does not use the quality control applied to JPG. Lossless optimization without resizing or refinements restructures the file while preserving pixels. An already optimized file may not get smaller.

In target size mode, PNG attempts use smaller dimensions rather than lower quality. If you need a smaller file, try WebP or lower the maximum dimensions. Selecting JPG fills transparent areas with the chosen background color.

How to use

  1. Select a PNG file.
  2. Use PNG and high quality mode to start lossless optimization.
  3. Check both the result and the separate lossless result size, then download.

Tip

Choose PNG, WebP, or AVIF when transparency is needed. PNG is not always the smallest format; check which formats your destination accepts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reduce PNG quality?

The current PNG encoder does not apply a quality value. You can reduce dimensions or select another format.

Is transparency preserved?

PNG output supports transparent areas. Converting to JPG fills those areas with a background color.

Is a lossless result always smaller?

No. It can be the same size or larger depending on the source compression. Compare the actual sizes shown.

Are iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos supported?

Yes. The first image in a HEIC/HEIF file is decoded in your browser. Keep original format saves it as JPG. If decoding fails, convert the photo to JPG and try again.
